Muscovado was founded in Cape Town in 2006. The company's concept is based around the design and manufacture of custom furniture, but grew into a custom made living experience.
Muscovado is a type of unrefined brown sugar, it is raw and natural. It goes through a process to form crystals, and through this process still keeps its natural colour and sweetness.
The name describes our company's approach to design. Louw Roets, the creative personality behind Muscovado, takes care to design and handcraft each piece to enhance the natural aesthetics of the wood, and combine it with functionality.
design
Inspired by natures unequaled and proven to work designs, is where muscovado draws its inspiration from. An endless supply of colours, patterns, shapes and movements swirls past the eye every day. Just pause for a moment, look and appreciate. Muscovado combines what nature offers and fuses that with the variety of materials that is readily available to man, to create something entirely different.

Muscovado only uses selected timber suppliers that stock the finest grades of timber from across the world. You have a selection of more than 165 species of timber ranging from Aruba to Zebrano. Muscovado will assist you in selecting the wood that compliments your style and adds aesthetic value to your designed or custom made piece. Each piece of wood is hand selected, bearing in mind the design
and customers preference.

functionality
As important as the design and aesthetics, functionality goes hand in hand with the latter. The Creator didn't make nature beautiful alone but combined it with functionality. Each part connects to the next in a very calculated and delicate way to serve a very particular purpose and working together in uniform to create something mind blowing.
In this way muscovado is growing towards something unequaled. Because
every specie of wood has its own characteristics and properties (appearance,uses,physical,working) muscovado is very particular about sourcing the correct and most sufficient timber for the job at hand.

Muscovado's in-house designer with that of the timber suppliers, you can rest assure that every technical aspect is being carefully considered and taken care of.
